Top Five FAQs

When does Buche Foods take over the store?

Dec 31, 2018. Currently, there is a 90-day wind down transition. We will be in as quickly as we can, but are a little reliant on Hiway 20 doing the right thing. We plan to offer a more-than-fair price for their equipment so the transition goes even smoother. If not, we will be providing FREE bussing to an area town so you can shop for groceries.

What will be done with current workers?

This is the question we get asked most. We aim to hire every existing employee and every employee who continues with us will receive a 4% raise. There will be no loss of jobs and the workers will have no loss of hours.

To the existing employees of Sioux Nation. We’re excited for each of you to work at our new store. And we’re already planning lots of great upgrades we’d love for you to be part of.

Buche Foods will also be welcoming new applications to join our team!

How will you ensure lower prices?

We run pricing the same at each one of our Buche Foods stores. In fact, some Buche item prices should decrease to the increased volume of adding another store. We also welcome price audits. We know that we are going to help Pine Ridge save money shopping with us – money that goes right back into your pocket and your family’s pocket.

We also have a Buche Foods app and a rewards card. For the app, you can download on iTunes or Google Play store. Once you’ve downloaded, select Pine Ridge as your store. You will see all the items we have each week. You will also receive a minimum of $25 in free merchandise day one. Facebook also features contests and promotions.

If you do not have a smart phone, no problem. Signup on our first day open to take advantage of RF Reward Cards.

What will you do to put more of an emphasis on healthy foods?

We will stock Clearly Organic and all natural products. We will also have an emphasis on fresh produce, buying locally grown products raised right here on the reservation whenever possible. Buche Foods also uses the Date Check Pro system to make sure all our stocked food is in date and fresh.

What are your plans with the hardware and auto parts?

We are currently in talks with suppliers and we want to bring lower prices and more variety in both these areas. We think you are going to like what you see.

A few more questions you may have…

6. How will you make the grocery store more safe?

We have strict policies and procedures for checking temperatures and implementing cleanliness and sanitation standards. We will welcome routine inspections by the IHS, tribe, state and federal government.

7. Do you raise prices on EBT day?

Absolutely not. Any retailer that would even consider that should be banned from ever doing business again. We are very competitive especially on the 10th of each month, and will continue to be. We want to earn your business!

8. What are your benefits for full time? Part time?

We want full time workers but welcome anyone that wishes to work part time, too. Our benefits include: Health Insurance, Vacation, AFLAC, 401K, Life Insurance, Vision Care, Dental Care, Paid Birthdays, Discounts, Scholarships, Team Member Recruitment Bonus and Performance Bonus (Christmas Bonus).

9. Will you be doing any remodeling?

Yes, we plan to put in some new equipment, hopefully a new floor, new décor, paint, etc. The store will look like a Buche Foods store – bright, clean, and safe.

10. How is the Oglala Sioux tribe benefiting by having Buche Foods?

The tribe is receiving an amount that is nearly double what they were receiving from Sioux Nation. Additionally, at the end of the lease, the tribe is going to own all the equipment, so they are never behind the 8-ball again.

11. How will you be involved in the community?

I don’t know all the needs and organizations just yet, but I can say we will be involved just like we are in other stores with our Feed the Hungry, Underdog Scholarships and Cancer fundraiser programs.

Last year, our donations back to the customers in our towns were in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. We plan to do that in Pine Ridge as well!

12. Do you have a complaint log?

We currently have a complaint log and I personally get every single complaint emailed to me. I will respond personally or one of my managers will respond. I take complaints and suggestions very seriously – because it’s just the right thing to do.

13. Will you provide the tribe with your sales audit information?

Yes, I can easily put each member of the tribal council and/or the revenue department on an email every day or every week to see sales data as often as they like. We plan to be very transparent and look forward to a long relationship with the tribe!

14. Will you be looking at any other store opportunities on the Oglala Sioux Reservation?

Yes, I have been told that is very important to the tribal council. We look forward to servicing other areas of the reservation!
